I usually do not take all four kids grocery shopping with me, although I normally have Matthew with me and Jacob too about half the time. I can usually get away with buying a small bag of goldfish to keep Matthew entertained and a donut for Jacob and then stick to my list. Those two small treats cost about $2. Yesterday, I took all four kids with me to the store. Here's what we bought that I would not have purchased if they had all stayed home:
- box of chocolate donut holes
- cheez-it crackers
- 3 bottles of lemonade
- cantaloupe
- bacon
- Pringles --sour cream 'n onion
- goldfish crackers
Total cost: about $17. Good grief!! It's definitely easier on the budget to leave the kids at home.

Ha ha ha ha ha! Hilarious! At least you can say that you are still alive after taking all of them with you. I gave up shopping with the lil ones about 10 years ago. But now I'm having to take kids out one at a time for "Shopping with Mom" dates. Teenagers can sure rack up the bills! So I totally feel for you! Kim
It's even worse than that when my husband comes with me and especially when he does the shopping by himself. :-) I can always count on several extra items jumping into the cart when he comes along. The kids are pretty good at taking "no" for an answer, but the hubs is a different story. His response is usally "that's fine. I guess I'll just have to come back and get it by myself tomorrow." To that I usually roll my eyes and say "Whatever. Throw it in..."
I think I came home from the store the other day with those exact items and nothing else.
OK, on my blog this would be "the cost of shopping with Alan". Seriously. I always spend at least 30-50 bucks more at Sam's with him around. If I send him to the store by himself for two items, he'll come home with 15, many of which are gourmet and pricey. The 30 bucks of cheese was a real memorable trip.
