I was excited to find a part-time job opening listed with the school district this past spring/summer. I applied, interviewed, and was hired as a teacher assistant working on the district DIBELS team. What that means is that I am part of a team of people who do DIBELS testing (test reading & literacy skills) of all the kindergarten through third grade students in the district three times a year -- beginning, middle, and end. I work all day (school hours) everyday in September, January, and May. The district has done this testing on paper for years, but this year decided to try a new procedure of testing using an ipad and forming a team of people specifically trained to administer the tests. I'm really excited!! I have been wanting to find some type of part-time work to keep myself occupied now that all the boys are in school all day. I'm glad this opportunity came up.
I went to an all-day training last week and it blew my mind -- learning all the ipad stuff and the actual testing procedures. I was really nervous to get started at a school on Tuesday. However, the first day went pretty well as far as the testing was concerned and even though everyone had technical issues with the ipad, it all worked out and my anxiety has quieted! The rest of the week went well and I'm happy. I'm sure that as I continue to do this during the next few weeks, I'll get really bored of hearing the same reading passages and non-sense words over and over and over again, but it will also be over in a few weeks and I'll have a break until January. The team of people that I get to work with seem to be really nice and I'm enjoying getting to know them.
