lake erie

This was our first time visiting one of the great lakes. Lake Erie is huge -- it's like the ocean to me! The little piece we visited was yucky dirty, but we had to put our toes in anyway. (I put my toes in, Mark put in only a pinky finger, but the boys managed to get in up to their thighs!) The boys only had to walk about 2 feet out to get this deep.
The "beach" had a great tire swing. We put it to good use.
I guess lots of people fish here, and we found this wacky fish dude in the parking lot.
There was a long cement dock to walk out on.
Or maybe pretend to toss a kid overboard.
There's also an old lighthouse here at Fairport Harbor. We hiked up the approximately 75 steps to take a look around.
Just lovely picture of us, eh?
Pretty nice view. The lake doesn't look so icky from up here.
Many early church members from NY came to Kirtland via boat and landed here at Fairport Harbor (about 13 miles from Kirtland). This port was also the place where many early missionaries departed for their missions.
