hawaii - part 1

Our family vacation this year was big -- Hawaii!  We got to spend a week on the island of Oahu.  We had a wonderful time exploring!  I imagine it will take me a few posts to cover all the vacation, which is why this one is titled "Part 1".  Not sure how many more will follow, so stay tuned...

We found a great airfare deal if we flew out of Boise.  So, we headed to Boise on Tuesday evening after school and work and stayed overnight in a motel by the airport.  On Wednesday, we spent the day traveling and got to our condo on the North Shore around 11 p.m.  LONG day.

Thursday's first adventure was to find a grocery store and get food for a few days -- and breakfast!  After that, we went for a hike in Hau'ula.  After a bit, we came to this beautiful viewpoint!

The trail was moist (bordering on mud) and there were lots of vines and trees - jungle.  Jared decided to try out some pull-ups on this tree. Jacob & Matthew thought that looked fun and gave it a try themselves.

Above is a little side trip off the trail down to the stream.  We even found a "Matthew Spot" among some lava rocks on the trail.
Another look at the view as we came back around the loop trail.  Beautiful!
The boys at the trailhead sign when we had finished our hike.
Later that night we drove out to Laie Point.  We didn't realize that it was getting dark so early in the day, so these pictures were taken at dusk.
Interesting rock "island" out in the ocean there.
