halloween hulabaloo

The Monday before Halloween is always our pumpkin carving FHE. It seems we lacked a little Halloween spirit this year because Jared didn't even want to carve a pumpkin, and Ryan decided he didn't want to either after having a hard time getting the top off. Jacob & Matthew kept going and ended with these: You might notice the cut around the top of the white pumpkin -- we were going to scoop it out and carve, but interest was lost and a much easier route was taken -- the Mr. Potato Head-ish dog face parts that you just push into the pumpkin. Still very cute, I think.

Jacob wielding the pumpkin knife!

Ta-da!
I LOVE this picture of Matthew! It cracks me up. I think we must have asked him what kind of face he wanted to put on his pumpkin:
Matthew as Obi Wan Kenobi. He got to dress up for a party at preschool and a party at the church. One should never leave home without a lightsaber for protection.
Jacob's school class presented a Halloween program. This is the first time ever I have had a few decent shots of a school program.

His class did a short pumpkin play. Everyone was a pumpkin except for a boy who wanted to carve a pumpkin and a wicked witch. When the witch wanted to turn the pumpkins into something less desireable (I can't remember what), several pumpkins came up with ideas to thwart her plan. Jacob's line, which he said with great dramatic gusto, was "Let's sweep her out of here!" I think he may have a future in theatre. Seriously, he did awesome!!
Finally, we got to the best part of Halloween -- trick-or-treating. Jacob dressed as a robber.

Matthew as Obi Wan.
Jared took Matthew trick-or-treating and helped sort through the spoils.
Jacob raked in a load of goods.
Jacob spent the evening trick-or-treating with his buddy Colman.
My only picture of Ryan in his "costume". He spent a good 2 hours with his buddy Conner going door to door. You can see from the clock in the background that he made it home by 8:30 p.m. Get a load of his goodies:

Ryan beginning the sorting process: candy I like, candy to throw away, candy to trade with friends, candy to trade with brothers, candy to give to brothers, candy to give to Mom, candy to give to Dad, and the list goes on and on...
Definitely another SWEET Halloween!
